Ex Libris Philippines is a nationwide and government-recognized nonstock, nonprofit organization for book enthusiasts. We believe that the nobility of ideals and great vision should not just exist in the pages of books or in the minds of authors long-dead and gone, but in reality. We hold fundraisers for the organization’s Scholarship Project to help send deserving but financially needy U.P. students to school. In March 2007, we held a special screening of Frank Miller's"300" in the Powerplant Mall Cinema, Makati. The proceeds went to Gerico Prince Punzalan and Hanna Garcia. Mr. Punzalan graduated last April 26, 2009, BA Speech Communication, cum laude. For 2008's fundraising project, we held an opera production of Donizetti's DON PASQUALE, starring talented students and alumni from the UP College of Music, which was held at the UP Engineering Theater, Melchor Hall, UP Diliman, on April 4, 2008. The proceeds went to Mikael Angelo S. Francisco (BA Communication Research), Vincent B. Parrenas (BA Philosophy), Maricar F. Verano (BA History), Jessa Chryzl R. Orosco (BS Statistics), and Dave Capule (DCPMA Piano). More recently, in 2010, we held our third fundraising event, a Concert for a Cause, with performances by Gabriela Francisco, Tata Francisco, Prof. Carolyn Cheng, Franz Miguel Ramirez, Raymond Sanga and Franco Maigue. The concert was held on May 21, 2010, Friday, 6 p.m. at the UP College of Music, Nicanor Abelardo Hall. With the proceeds from the concert, our scholar beneficiaries were: Frederick G. Precillas (B.A. Fine Arts), Claudine V. Enduma (B.S. Tourism), Mark Bryan F. Manantan (B.A. Broadcast Communication), and Dancille Villarey (B.S. Nutrition). Mark Bryan Manantan graduated this past 2011 MAGNA CUM LAUDE, and was also nominated for Best Thesis. Watch THE AVENGERS and help send UP students to school!Ex Libris Philippines invites you to a special blocked screening of “The Avengers” at Rockwell Power Plant Cinema 2, 7:00 p.m., April 25, 2012. Tickets are at Php 500.00 each. Please help spread the word! This special blocked screening of “The Avengers” is the fourth fundraising project for the Ex Libris Philippines Scholarship Project. With your help, we will be able to continue sending students to school. ASIDE FROM OUR FUNDRAISING PROJECTS... Ex Libris Philippines has an organized system of booklending that enables each and every member to have access to many other books through the other members' collections, encouraging them to read more, broaden their literary horizons, or simply bask in the companionship of fellow booklovers. We hold book sessions in which we foster good fellowship and good reading. In these book sessions we share opinions, views, critiques and real life lessons from books; explore other genres, share our favorite books and personal literary experiences with each other, and we can even pool resources together to buy much-desired books. Future plans of Ex Libris Philippines include the establishment of more scholarships to help send deserving youth to school; the formation of ties with other schools, university libraries, and publishing houses; sponsoring author appearances; and participating in various noteworthy literary causes---such as volunteering to help teach school children how to read. HOW DO I JOIN?For inquiries on how to join or how to help out in our Scholarship Project, you can simply leave a comment at this site (please include your email address as well) or email us at teachertata@gmail.com or gabitwin@gmail.com.
